baked by melissa

March is International Women's Month, and to celebrate I'm sharing my favorite women-owned businesses.

I finally had the time to put together a round-up of some of my favorite women-owned brands. Although Women’s History month gave me the kick in the ass to get this done, supporting female-led brands is central to our ethos at Baked by Melissa.

I have grown so much as a founder, CEO, and mother thanks in large part to the support of other women. Call it karma or whatever, but I think it’s so important to share some of the brands that I have discovered and am proud to support.

Here are some of the women-owned businesses I love:

Spruce Design

The Baked by Melissa team moved our NYC HQ in February and tapped Katie and her team at Spruce to design to bring my vision to life. I’m blown away by Katie and her team. I can’t say enough incredible things about Katie, she’s a hustler and works her butt off just like I do - she took care of EVERYTHING - from unpacking our boxes, organizing everything and of course, putting together furniture and accepting deliveries. If you’re a busy mom like me, you know it’s crucial to have people like Katie that you can trust to execute your vision.

Elisa Solomon

If you’ve seen our TikTok, you know I love to wear delicate, gold jewelry with a whimsical feel. Elisa’s stuff is my absolute go-to. I am obsessed with my little gold necklace with my girl’s initials. And she’s a bad ass working mom just like me :)

Jessie Rubin Studio

I originally found Jessie on instagram through one of my best mom friends. I knew I wanted to one day have one of her pieces but had no place in my home to put one. Fast forward a year and I knew Jessie was the one I wanted creating the art for our new Baked by Melissa home. We have Jessie’s art all over our office. Her stuff is so vibrant, cool and has a gritty, city feel that I love. You can buy her prints or originals depending on your budget. You can even get her art on coasters, home decor, you name it. She’s also part of the working mom tribe!

Hu Kitchen

I have been a Hu Kitchen lover since they opened their first location right near our corporate office. I love everything they make! Hu was actually started by a brother and sister team, just like Baked by Melissa. I love using their chocolate chips and gems in my recipes, there is nothing like it. My favorites are Hu Hunks but it’s all incredible. You’ve got to check them out if you haven't already.

Lovey and Grink

Fun Fact: I have known the founders of Lovey and Grink since before Baked by Melissa even existed! They’re a pair of hard working sisters with a product that stands out in the Pajama Category. Their PJs are the softest material I have ever felt and my girls love the prints. They also have some of the cutest dresses that double as sleepwear and my kids cannot get enough of them. Thanks to Alexis and Becky my girls look forward to putting on their PJs which makes their bedtime routine just that much easier.

Melissa Wood Health

Melissa absolutely helped me move my body through COVID. She is a working mom like me so she gets that it’s virtually impossible to find time to workout. Melissa’s workouts and mindfulness are so efficient and effective - whether you have 10 minutes or an hour there are so many quick and longer workouts to choose from - you wont feel like it's a chore. If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with being efficient. If you can’t seem to find the time to work out, then Melissa Wood Health is perfect for you!

Just Date

Just Date was founded by a woman and is run by women. During COVID I started cooking A LOT more, and stumbled upon their date syrup on Amazon. I am always looking for healthier alternatives to sugar to incorporate into my kids breakfasts and Just date has so many fun ingredients to work with! I incorporate their date sugar and syrup into so many of my recipes when I want to add some sweetness. The founder, Sylvia, is actually a trained medical doctor and she’s working on ways to counteract the negative impacts refined sugar has had on public health. Their products are an awesome sugar alternative for your everyday cooking!

Minted

I’ve used Minted for so many special occasions over the years -  from my girl’s personalized stationery to thank you cards for my wedding, they are my go to for hand written notes!  I love that their Co-Founders are bad ass women, one also named Melissa!

Olive & June

I love Sarah, the founder and CEO of Olive & June. She’s one of those super positive and magnetic personalities that you want to be around and cheer for. Her nail polish is insane, too! The colors are great and they last for so long. During COVID, Sarah and her team pivoted to offer an at home manicure kit that allowed you to give yourself a professional mani but from the comfort of your own home and for cheaper. You’ll love their stuff.

Parachute

I was thrilled to learn that Parachute is a female founded company. We love their bedding and I’m so impressed with the lifestyle brand Ariel has created in such a short period of time.

Velvet Caviar

Because I’m shooting so much content these days and also running the business, I recently got a second phone so I can shoot content and work at the same time. Multi-tasking = another mom superpower. I recently got this phone case from Velvet Caviar and it makes me so happy. Their founder, Michelle, is a fellow NYC-based entrepreneur who is constantly putting out fun, new designs which you can get to spruce and protect all your tech. Makes everyday life just a little bit sweeter!

We selected these businesses because we love them, and hope you do too. Any purchase you make through our links may earn us a commission.
