Hot Cocoa Rice Krispies Treats Recipe

When it comes to the winter season, no drink is more quintessential than hot cocoa. It has the ability to warm you up from the inside out and is a real comfort on chilly nights. Rice krispies are always a crowd pleaser, so I thought why not mash the two together for the ultimate cozy dessert.

These aren’t your regular run of the mill rice krispies. The brown butter base elevates them and that’s before the marshmallows and hot cocoa come into play. Once added, your taste buds will do a happy dance. The crunchy on the outside gooey on the inside marshmallow on top is my favorite part, and the main reason I’ll never stop making these. ‘Tis the season for these brown butter beauties!

Ingredients for Hot Cocoa Rice Krispies Treats

  • 1/2 stick of Unsalted Butter
  • Two 10 oz bags of Mini Marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup of Hot Cocoa Mix
  • 6 cups of Rice Krispies Cereal 
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Salt

How to Make Your Hot Cocoa Rice Krispies Treats

  1. Melt down the butter in a large pot. Once it is melted, stir continuously to brown the butter. The butter will foam up, and then reveal little brown specks.
  2. Once the brown specks appear, add in one bag of the mini marshmallows. Let them melt down to about half way.
  3. Stir in hot cocoa mix and salt until fully incorporated.
  4. Remove from the pot from the heat and pour in Rice Krispies. Stir until fully combined.
  5. Place into a rectangular pan or shape the krispies into a large block.
  6. Pour out about half a bag of marshmallows onto the top of the Rice Krispie treats, and place under a broiler for 1-2 minutes or until they become toasty at the top!
  7. Let it cool, cut and serve!
