CHEESEBURGER SALAD
Posted: | Categories: Substack Archives | Tags:substackYou heard it here first: Anything can be a crouton. Anything can also be a vessel.
Protein on salads isn’t exactly groundbreaking. But when the protein is the crouton, everything changes. It’s fun, crunchy, and a little unexpected. The same idea works for the base—swap your toast for a pita with protein—and now you’ve got a full meal that hits every note. (See also: pizza salad.)
Today I’m sharing new ways to easily make a salad that tastes as good as it makes you feel. It lightens up meals you know and love and makes salad the star. And the sauces!! The sauces hit every note.
Here’s what’s on the menu:
Cheeseburger Salad
Lamb Pita with Tzatziki & Za’atar Romaine
Crispy Tofu with Vegan Caesar
Cheeseburger Salad
If you’re craving a cheeseburger but want something a little lighter, this is the salad for you. It tastes EXACTLY like a cheeseburger (the secret’s in the sauce). You can add any veggies you have/love, but I stuck with classic tomato/onion/iceberg to keep it close to the original. Get creative with it based on your fave burger. It would also be great with plant-based beef if you’re trying to eat less animal protein!
Lamb Pita with Za’atar Romaine
There are two ways to go about this. One, cut the lamb pita into small pieces to serve as croutons, like the cheeseburger salad, or (what I’d do) two, pile the delicious salad on top of the pita and serve it like a taco. The combination of za’atar/tzatziki/lamb/iceberg/fresh pita is elite any way you serve it.
Crispy Tofu with Vegan Caesar
I feel like I’ve been sharing a lot of meat recipes lately (because that’s what we’ve been eating at home and the weather is getting colder). This crispy tofu is one of my faves for everyone—it’s perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. Pile a crunchy, refreshing Caesar salad on top and you have the perfect dinner.
