Today I’m sharing the top veggies to get when you go to the market, how to pick the best ones, and what to make with them when you get home. Don’t forget to add a few bundles of herbs to your basket, too!

Buy this: Corn

We spotted bi-color and sweet white corn the other day; get whatever looks best. Some stands don’t want you to shuck the corn there (unlike at the grocery store), so feel the cob a little and make sure to grab the ones without soft spots.

Make this: Watermelon & Corn Salad

This is one of my favorite summer recipes—it’s sweet and salty and uses the best summer ingredients. So refreshing!

Buy this: Tomatoes

My favorite thing to buy at the market. I never liked tomatoes growing up, but I think that’s because I wasn’t eating good ones. (IYKYK.) I always look for ones that are red and hard. I love the little ones to eat on toast and the bigger ones to pile onto a sandwich.

Make this: Simple Tomato Salad

When you have ingredients this good, you don’t need to add a ton of stuff. This is my favorite salad, in a bowl or a pita. YUM.

Buy this: Zucchini

With zucchini, bigger isn’t always better. Choose one that’s a nice shade of green—not too light—and without nicks. I try to get small/medium-sized zukes. This time of year, there are endless rows of squash in all colors, so get whatever looks great to you.

Make this: Grilled Zucchini & Kale Pesto

I love this zucchini recipe because it’s simple—perfect for letting peak season produce shine.

Buy this: Eggplant

Pick up the eggplants and choose the one that feels lightest. Avoid those with bruises or obvious soft spots.

Make this: Roasted Eggplant & Pepper Dip

A smooth, creamy dip perfect for a backyard summer hang.
