bite-size cupcake tea party

All my tips and tricks for hosting a tea party-themed birthday celebration, including menu ideas, tea sets, and more!

I love any excuse to share Baked by Melissa cupcakes with my kids. Birthday parties, holidays, just because—you name it. The bite-size cupcakes lend themselves so well for tea parties and allow my kids to stretch their imaginations.

Thinking of throwing your own tea party with kids or a tea party-themed birthday? Here are my favorite ways to make the party the perfect blend of food and fun.

Create tier platters of mini cupcakes and macarons

To start, one of the best parts of planning—choosing the tea party desserts! Our macarons and cupcakes make the perfect bite-size desserts to make your tea party fun. You can even pick your own flavors to have your treats match your theme, and arrange them on tiered platters to give the table an extra touch of flare. When the party’s done, send guests home with tea party favors!

Invite friends, dolls, or stuffed animals to join

The first step to throwing a tea party is curating the guest list. Whether you’re having a tea for three birthday party or hosting several guests, it's important to be surrounded by the best company. You’ll need to invite your closest friends, dolls, or even stuffed animals to join you for this lovely event!

Dress up in your tea party best

At my house, tea parties always have a dress code to show up in style. Whatever you choose to wear, accessorizing with crowns, homemade jewelry, or feather boas will make you and your guests feel like a million bucks.

Serve delicious mini finger foods

Next up on the tea party menu is the food. Tiny sandwiches pair nicely with tea and if they’re small, you can try them all of course! Some of my favorite sandwich fillings are egg salad, chickadilly salad (aka pickle and chicken salad), and tomato and burrata on a crostini.

Gather your finest tea sets and tea

One of the most important parts of a tea party is the tea. Get out your porcelain tea set and have your guests sip on the most refreshing teas of your choosing! We drink a lot of tea in my house (this one is our favorite), but feel free to swap it out with water or juice if your kids prefer to sip on something else.
